Public participation is important in the development of the Transport Master Plan and key stakeholders were invited to participate in the phase two of the project in August and September 2022 to provide feedback on the status quo assessment and proposed solutions to the key problems that were identified in the project’s first phase.

Feedback from the previous rounds of stakeholder engagement was used to guide the preparation of the Draft Transport Master Plan and Implementation Plan. This third phase of the study includes live face-to-face Public Open Days in Cosmo City and Zandspruit as well as an Online Public Meeting. Input from these meetings and any written comments received during the comment period will be used to inform the preparation of the Final Transport Master Plan and Implementation Plan.

All interested and affected parties are invited to participate in any one of the following public engagements where the Draft Transport Master Plan and Implementation Plan will be presented. Details of these meeting are as follows:

    Online Public Meeting

    Date: Monday 14 November 2022

    Time: 18h00 to 20h00

    Venue: MS Teams Online

Please email our offices at ZandspruitTMP@nma.org.za for a link to the MS Teams meeting.

Should you wish to attend one of the Public Open Days in person, these will take place as follows:

Members of the project team and representatives of the City of Johannesburg Transport Department and the Johannesburg Development Agency will be available to answer your questions. Comment forms will also be available for you to write down any comments you may have on the project and the draft report. A formal presentation followed by a question-and-answer session will take place at each Public Open Day at 11h00.

  • Phase 2 Ideation Workshops

Public participation is an important component in the development of the Transport Master Plan and in October and November 2021 during the first phase of the project a series of stakeholder workshops were conducted to identify issues and concerns for the status quo assessment.

The study has now moved into the second phase which involves the development of concepts and solutions to address the problems identified in the status quo assessment, together with scenario planning and modelling to test these solutions. This phase of the study includes another round of stakeholder engagement in the form of ideation workshops with key stakeholder groups and the community and we would therefore like to invite community members and key stakeholders within the study area to attend meetings that have been scheduled as follows:

    1. Zandspruit Community Ideation Workshop

    Date: Saturday 3 September 2022

    Time: 10h30 to 12h30

Venue: Cosmo City Multi-Purpose Centre – Main Hall

    2. Cosmo City and Malibongwe Ridge Community Ideation Workshop

    Date: Saturday 3 September 2022

    Time: 14h00 to 16h00

Venue: Cosmo City Multi-Purpose Centre – Main Hall

    3. North Riding Agricultural Holdings, Jackal Creek Golf Estate, Olievenhoutpoort, Kevin Ridge, Sonnedal AH and Sundowner Ext 7 Community:

North Riding AH Ideation Community Workshop

    Date: Monday 29 August 2022

    Time: 18h30 to 20h30

Venue: MS Teams Online (Please contact our office on email at ZandspruitTMP@nma.org.za to register your interest in attending this meeting and we will send you the MS Teams link for the meeting)

The purpose of these meetings is to present a broad overview of the findings of the status quo assessment together with proposed ideas for solutions to the key transport and land use problems that were identified. We would like your comments on these concepts and to hear any other ideas that you may have to improve the transport system in the study area.

The input from these meetings will then be used in the preparation of a draft Transport Master Plan and Implementation Plan which will be made available for public comment during October and November later this year.

  • PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT ZANDSPRUIT AND SURROUNDING AREAS TRANSPORT MASTER PLAN

The Johannesburg Development Agency, implementing agent for the City of Johannesburg Transport Department, has appointed a consultant, Merchelles Collective, to prepare a Transport Master Plan for Zandspruit and surrounding areas over the next 18 months.

The study area is bounded by Malibongwe Drive, Northumberland Avenue, Beyers Naude Drive and the municipal boundary with Mogale City. It includes Zandspruit, Cosmo City, Malibongwe Ridge, North Riding AH, Kevin Ridge, Sonnedal AH and Sundowner Ext 7.

The project team invites stakeholders within the study area (who live, work or have an interest in these neighbourhoods) to register your interest by completing a registration form on the website https://nma.org.za/register during a 60-day comment period starting on Monday 20 September and ending at close of business on Monday 22 November 2021.

A round of meetings to introduce the study and determine opinions and concerns about the current transport system is being planned and everybody who registers will be allocated to one of 12 sectors and receive an invitation to attend a meeting for that sector.

Several public platforms are also available to facilitate input into the study including:
