The GAPP team have been appointed by UP&CoGTAfor the compilation of the Review of the Gauteng Spatial Development Framework 2030. NMA Effective Social Strategists (Pty) Ltd, part of the GAPP team, are tasked with conducting the stakeholder engagement component of the review. The client’s objectives are to adhere to SPLUMA (2015) legislation, requiring the GSDF to be reviewed every 5 years with the consideration of recent planning and policies; and changes to the GCR’s context. The GSDF was published in 2016 and thus a review of the GSDF is required.

The review must ensure that Gauteng develops as one of the world's significant emerging conurbations, based on virtuous spatial development principles such as spatial justice, spatial sustainability, climate and energy efficiency, economic resilience, spatial resilience, social cohesion, and good administration.

The reviewed GSDF should lead and guide decisive spatial transformation in Gauteng as necessitated by the strategic direction provided in Growing Gauteng Together 2030 (GGT2030). The reviewed GSDF will set the spatial agenda for inclusive developmental, equitable and efficient spatial planning in the Province. It should provide a framework for implementation and serve as a framework for policies, principles, norms and standards for spatial planning. The review should follow the lead of national and provincial policies that are geared to advance spatial transformation at scale.
